Review of Forty Guns (1957) by Dan H — 05 Apr 2008
Lean, down and dirty Western that tells a quick, occasionally disjointed story. The 40 guns mentioned in the title are pretty much just window dressing, and I think if their role as Barbara Stanwyck's personal entourage would have been explored more this could have been cranked up a notch.
As it is, Fuller doesn't quite know if this is a romance or a tale of revenge and frontier justice. He tries to do both, but it leaves the story meandering here and there. Still and all, a solid, entertaining Western.
