Review of Forrest Gump (1994) by Googolendtimes — 25 Apr 2014
"Pulp Fiction" is better. "The Shawshank Redemption" is better. But nonetheless, I love "Forrest Gump". I fully understand why some may not like it, but I love it. I love its acting, I love the way in which it is rendered, I love its scope.
I love its seamless combination of comedy, drama, romance and, to a degree, fantasy, to produce such a story so dazzlingly endearing you almost don't want the film to end. Tom Hanks is a marvel to behold, playing our protagonist across multiple decades of monumental importance to American history with an endearing simplicity and charm.
And I think Gary Sinise delivers some of the best supporting work in any film I've ever seen. Sentimental to a fault it may be, but "Forrest Gump" encapsulates the ideal of the American dream unlike any other film I've ever watched.
It is the feel-good film of the decade, of any decade.
