Review of Foreign Correspondent (1940) by Adrian B — 01 Nov 2010
Excellent Hitchcock film. Great acting, thrilling, exciting, tense, and sadly, I liked it better than the film released 1940, which beat it out for Best Picture, Rebecca (though I really liked that film too).
There are many elements within this film that can be seen in other Hitchcock classics, especially "Lifeboat," "The Man Who Knew too Much," and "North by Northwest" (especially the latter of the two).
I love how the film still has all its problems associated with the assassination hoax while at the same time it seems to drift into the early stages of World War II. An absolutely fine Hitchcock film, plus another missed off the 1001 Movies List.
It is a "must-see." NOTE: Hitchcock's cameo appearance is one of his most interesting shots. He is in two shots around 12 minutes and thirty seconds into the film, one of two films where he is in two shots (the other being "Rope.
").
