Review of Force Majeure (2014) by Hugo G — 05 Jan 2015
8.3/10.
Very good and original movie with a very divisive and controversial plot, about gender roles in today's society, and what is like to be a "man". It was pretty interesting to watch it, and see the reactions of each character and how there is not right answer to this "problem" that has been incrusted in us about how show everyone act/be depending on their gender. Therefore, it was pretty smart what they did with each character and how their actions have a reaction that shouldn't always be the way we act upon it. It's one of the first movies that I remember, that deal with the restrictions and limitations on gender roles so effectively. And I could go on and on about how significant and important this movie is. Moreover, the direction and image looked very nice, and every scene looked great. Also, it had a nice balance of drama and tension, with some mixture of humor here and there. And finally, the acting was also really good, and a very important factor for the movie because if it wasn't believable, the movie wouldn't have worked. Overall, great foreign movie with a very provocative story and social commentary about toady's gender roles and double standard.
