Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by Chris G — 27 Jan 2008
Before Star Trek we got "Forbidden Planet" a fun little sci-fi film from the 50's that is still quite entertaining. Loosely (and I mean loosely) inspired by The Tempest, a crew goes to a far off plant in search of a crew that previously landed there, finding only two survivors: A professor and his daughter.
Staying on the planet the crew must then fight off some invisible force. Dated in many respects, yet the effects still hold up surprisingly well. Has its campy moments, but the film is quite good and very fun.
