Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by C F — 29 Apr 2009
Just a really cool freakin' movie. I can only imagine being a kid in the 50's watching this in a movie theater and being completely blown away. Certainly one of the best looking pre-2001 sci-fi flicks out there, with vibrant colors filling every frame.
All of the sets are amazing, and the special effects are pretty awesome too. And on top of that, it's an interesting sci-fi mystery adventure story about the unknown dangers lurking in deep space, combined with a surprisingly effective use of Freudian psychology! And if that's not enough incentive to watch it, it also stars a young Leslie Nielsen and a bourbon drinking robot (one of Bender's ancestors, I presume).
