The first Sci-Fi film to eclipse it's B-Movie roots. It doesnt have giant bugs, dinosaurs, or anything like that it is just a good story with meaning and serious tone. Robby the Robot! It led the way for so many (better and worse) movies to come.
Star Wars owes alot to it as do many fantasy/scifi films. Just a great movie regardless of genre but it a real classic within it's genre.
