Awesome sets, effects, and matte paintings define this massively influential and imaginative sci-fi film that blazed the trail for Star Trek, Star Wars, Inception, and was paid visual tribute to in Mars Attacks! Quite interesting how the Id is engaged.

Considered an adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, that undercurrent of story compliments the cutting edge visuals with a sophistication that is quite possibly original. There is quite a bit of exposition, but it's interesting content.

Leslie Nielsen is unrecognizable as a serious Hollywood leading man. The spacey 1950s electronic score is great. It's difficult to imagine any contemporary sci-fi film that could even come close to introducing so many concepts that would be adopted so widely in the future.
