(1952) Forbidden Games.

DRAMA.

The first time I saw this film, I had the tendency to see some critically acclaimed films and came across this "gem" and at first previewed, I hated the little girl because of an explosion which involves her and I was blaming this incident onto the little girl because I assumed that she knew what she had done. And as I got older and at the same time remembered what I had seen, I soon realized that as I was watching "Forbidden Games" ' I was actually viewing it on an 'artificial' kind of way, strictly from looking at the surface without looking in and ended up ignoring all the social commentary as well as its message which includes the impact war can affect very young children. After seeing it, I then loaned this film to a friend and he loved it, tried to convince me that it was a great film but didn't really get anywhere with me and I didn't realize why this film made an impact on me until I came across a book called "Film And The Critical Eye" published in 1971 in which it analysis selected films. And upon reading the analysis, changed my whole perception about why it is such a powerful anti- war film. Instead of showing actual war scenes or sequences on to the children, what this film does do instead is display how grown- ups act or react to the war and then to take it on to the children. There are no war battles or many army soldiers, just an explosion at the beginning and as the film progresses, that is when viewers get the sense that this is more than just a film about war, but is really making a statement about ourselves of our subltle tendency to crave and perhaps always encourage war and battle in a symbolic fashion. Because we as adults either crave or condone this type of lifestyle we tend to not even realize it and don't even intend it, and it is very metaphorically disturbing but on a subtle and on an acceptable kind of way.

4/4.
