Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) by Trevor H — 25 May 2008
Makes the case that Moore could be a great physical, complicated Bond. The jovial Bond finds that loving a revenge-minded Greek Athena can be a confounding proposition. All to get at a single sunken ship, he must throw out all of his talents, hanging outside of zipping helicopters, skiing down bobsled routes being pursued by run and gun biathaletes, desert buggies, submarine battles, the rock climb up the infinite cliff, you'll be astonished this was Moore Bond.
This is the safe-sex era bond, who admonishes Lynn-Holly's tiny blond figure skater, becomes enchanted with Melina, who he might easily charm and conquer, but finds himself pulled to aid. Yes, most percepts, are thrown out for the action.
But the little that remains challenges the "theater tested franchise" tones that mar the invincible, perfect-to-a-fault, always-tongue-in-cheek Bond. This time he is Dirk Pitt (The not McConaughey version).
