Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) by William B — 01 Feb 2009
After the excesses of MOONRAKER, the filmmakers decided to dial it down a bit, minimizing the role gadgets and contrived stunt work plays in this adventure. Bond even declines an opportunity to have sex with a girl who is probably young enough to be his granddaughter, so, you know, progress.
Carole Bouquet's "Bond Girl" is more intelligent and capable than most, and Topol brings a roguish charm to his character as well. When all is said and done, it doesn't quite match THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, but it's still a strong Bond film, and proof that Roger Moore was more than capable in the role.
