Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) by Bsh N — 10 Dec 2010
For Your Eyes Only(1981)-8/10...the 12th James Bond film and Moore's 5th is a very good spy story. A British spy ship has sunk, equipped with a special transmittng device for British nuclear submarines named the ATAC system and the Russians are after it, so Bond has to recover it before they do.
This film is directed by John Glen with the title song sung by Sheena Easton. Bond has to contend with Aris Kristatos played by Julian Glover, so he teams up with his rival Milos Columbo played by Topol.
The Bond girl is Melina played by Carole Bouquet, who is out to avenge the death of her parents. It should also be noted that Bond has an encounter with Columbo's mistress played by Cassandra Harris, who would later become Pierce Brosnan's wife in real life.
He must also deal with a promiscuous young ice-skater named Bibi played by Lynn-Holly Johnson...I love the scene where she throws herself at him! Other terrific scenes include a great chase on skis and Bond and co.
attacking an abandoned monastery. The reasons why this is one of Moore's most solid Bonds is because of its simpler story as opposed to the often seen "world domination" plots, plus the revenge plot adds to the story nicely.
The only disappointing thing I would say is how the franchise eventually deals with Blofeld...in this film he is relegated to the opening action sequence, where Bond disposes him with the use of a helicopter.
..shame really considering the character's run in the franchise.
