Review of For the Love of Spock (2016) by Ken S — 09 Dec 2016
This documentary produced and directed by Adam Nimoy about the life of his father Leonard and his very iconic character of Spock is okay. I am a lifelong huge Trek fan...but I have to admit that the documentary is a tad disjointed at times.
..feels like it only scratches the surface of who Nimoy was, and spends a bit too much time on the son and his complicated relationship with his father (yet it still manages to not go to in depth about it).
It then goes on a bit longer at the end about Quinto's performance of the new Spock...which feels inconsequential to the rest of the doc. I mean you could have it be a line or two about Quinto taking on this iconic role and the shoes he had to fill.
..but it spends a few minutes getting into Quinto and his performance, whereas it really felt less of a documentary about the character and more about the man behind the original portrayal of that character.
I dunno. It was alright, certainly inoffensive...just felt it was more of a feature length article about Nimoy and his life, passions and iconic character, than it was anything too in depth. Almost more of a eulogy than a documentary.
