Review of Temporary Road. (una) Vita di Franco Battiato (2013) by Matt M — 22 Jan 2014
Pollicelli and Tani chat with influential Italian music figure Franco Battito. The result isn't really ambitious and doesn't do too far off the TV-special format. More disappointing than that is perhaps the pretentiousness that comes through this documentary, which is something that plagues music documentaries in particular.
It's also quite disappointing to see more attention being given to Battiato's idea of spirituality than talking in depth about his music. In fact, what is disappointing about it is that his thoughts come across as disgruntled and disconnected - this is perhaps precisely what makes Temporary Road seem like a missed opportunity more than anything else.
