Review of For the Bible Tells Me So (2007) by Fredrick R — 01 May 2009
In the completion of a trilogy of documentaries on being gay in the Abrahamic religions, I watched For The Bible Tells Me So this morning, an American documentary about devout Christian families and when their sons or daughters come out to them. Gay Anglican Bishop Gene Robinson, Dick Gephardt and his lesbian daughter Chrissy(Dick Cheney and daughter are interestingly absent ;) among others tell of their journey of coming out in highly religious environments.
Its nice this documentary showed both white and black evangelicals, but also not reinforcing the myth that African Americans Evangelicals are fiercely more homophobic than their white counterparts.
While I learned more from Jihad for Love and Trembling Before G-d because I am less familiar with Islam and Judaism, this documentary is still worth a look.
