Review of For the Bible Tells Me So (2007) by Katie T — 25 Jul 2009
At first I thought this movie would be preaching to the choir (pardon the pun), but it is a really eye-opening look at exactly what scripture says about homosexuality and why, in context. The film looks at five conservative families dealing with their prejudice in the face of a gay family member, and follows their change.
The film has shown at lots of festivals and even churches. I feel like it would be a good film for conservative families to watch because it shows that there really is no reason for religion to condemn homosexuality, and it does so without 'bashing' religion or religious people who may watch it. I feel like coming away from the film I have a new set of tools to talk to people about LGBTA issues without offending them or scaring them away. The real-life stories of five conservative families coming to grips with their prejudices in the face of a gay family member is inspiring, no matter who you are.
