For Love of the Game is a film directed by Sam Raimi and is about a famous baseball player named Billy Chapel, played by Kevin Costner and his love of both the game and his girlfriend Jane Aubrey, played by Kelly Preston.
Your enjoyment of this film will come down to weather or not you like sports movies or not. This film does nothing all that different form any other sports movie. It's sappy, generic and cheesy, yet this kinda works in the films favor.
The film knows what it is and doesn't try to trick us into thinking it is something different than what it is. Since I like sports movies this works for me but I can see why others might be turned off by it.
In conclusion if you like sports movies you'll like this one if not there isn't anything here for you.
