Review of Footloose (1984) by Dayna H — 22 Oct 2011
I wasn't expecting much from Footloose, but the original film is surprisingly both entertaining and nuanced. It's a silly '50s plot thrust onto an '80s landscape, and it takes more than the typical suspension of disbelief to get past the fact that.
.. dancing is outlawed (!?), but once you get past the silliness, there are some good performances and a lot of fun to be had. John Lithgow's minister is a particularly well-written character, and his performance is the best thing about the film.
