Review of Following (1999) by Mikey M — 28 Jul 2010
Nolan's shoe-string first outing was an important building block in his American career and all the plaudits for this ambitious student project must go to his neat camera, visual presentation and edit.
Where the film fails is in the ropey script, superficial characters and poor casting. Theobold and Russell scrape across the clunky dialogue and laughable fight scenes, while the awful Alex Haw, pulls this film down into obvious student production.
Acting aside though, it was actually a fairly impressive student feature and at the end of the day, it helped Nolan to move some considerable way past casting his friends.
