Review of Following (1999) by Peter B — 30 Jul 2010
Stone cold proof that script and story are what primarily keep you interested. Nolans kinda first film - 69 mins means it aint a full on feature but it aint a short either - has clearly been made on the cheap but has style too.
A good performance by the main geezah and patchy often amateurish performances from the other dood and the lady.....but even these dont hide the often sheer brilliance of nolans tale. The ideas are intriguing, fascinating even - a story that is slight but captures the attention, we are all fascinated by people but how far is tooo far.
This is. Right here. What this bloke does is too far....but its a great idea for a character. The playing with narrative from memento is there and keeps you hooked, the twists and revelations are well handled and overall it shows that nolan was brilyant from the start and with inception out this month.
...he's only going and gettin even bloomin better. One of the best directors and writers of all time.
