Review of Following (1999) by Mohamed F — 22 Oct 2012
Hitchcock meets the French New Wave in Nolan's heavily amateurish debut feature, if this was made today by some kid, it'd only be put on Vimeo and wouldn't kick start anyone's career.
Script is the most important thing in filmmaking, and this script was NOT good, not the story, but the script itself, the events, the characterization, and just the balance of it all, especially the ending sequence which was extremely rushed.
Still, I kinda wonder, what happened to the Nolan that made this movie and later Memento? Why does he insist on doing the overrated blockbuster garbage he's been making since he went all Hollywood?
