Review of Follow the Fleet (1936) by Ameena M — 24 Jan 2009
It had its moments but overall it wasn't one of my favorites. I did enjoy the seeing Astaire in a blue collar role without the top hat and cane. Rogers also looked more cute in her working-girl outfits instead of her classy gowns.
Most of the dancing was less couple-y too, which let each shine on their own. Rogers' tap solo wasn't all that, though, but I was impressed by Astaire on the piano. My favorite number was definitely "Putting all my eggs in one basket"; Ginger's dancing and missteps were adorable.
The final number, "Let's Face the Music and Dance" was classic Astaire and Rogers and was marginally impressive (i liked when Astaire was trying to get her to dance at first), but it felt too push-pull and jolty.
Strange how they weren't even the main romantic couple too.
