Review of Focus (2014) by Dan S — 07 Feb 2016
The film was entertaining... I'll give you that. But I'm not going to give you much else. Will Smith was good, but merely, because he was just playing the same old "Will Smith" character he always plays. It's pretty clear he doesn't have much range, and this film said it all with that, while the other cast did their job well(Margot Robbie was great). But this was definitely just a popcorn movie that fell flat. With the twist of a climax not being all that surprising. I didn't hate the film in any way, and was genuinely curious as to what would happen next... but at the same time, I thought just turning off the t.v., due to not really caring about what was to actually happen.
-Cinematography was popcorn movie good(cliche but solid) - B.
-acting was good(except I am unbelievably bored with the Will Smith character) - B for everyone(C for Will Smith).
-writing was very predictable - C.
-Production Design was very exotic... but also very "popcorn movie" - B.
All together, it was just another blank movie, to fill the void of a boring night, with nothing to do(although, a topless Margot Robbie, is an A+ in my book).
-65%.
