Review of Flowers in the Attic (1987) by Chris M — 06 Jul 2008
Entertaining, but ultimately unsatisfying adaptation of V.C. Andrews' wonderful story.
It cuts way too much! It just makes me want to laugh at how badly handled the adaptation was. Sure, some of the novels more erotic parts couldn;t be in a PG-13 film, but still, I feel the film needed them.
The actors playing the kids, while not awful, are far too old for the roles. The only actress worth viewing in the film is Victoria Tennant, who is as beautiful, conflicted, and heartless as the book portrayed her.
Christopher Young's lovely score is the real highlight of the film!
Read the book, people!
