Review of Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) by Vic S — 11 Aug 2016
This is the second telling of this story in a year, the first was the triumphant French film MARGUERITE with an astonishing turn by fantastic actor Catherine Frot, who won a permanent place in my heart with her performance in HAUTE CUISINE.
I admit I was a little skeptical going into FFJ and Streep won me over. Very wisely she plays this straight ahead and doesn't mock the subject.
Hugh Grant can't resist some of his trademark ticks and grimaces, but crafts a very fitting character. He's been in some truly unintentional comedies in recent years. This film appearance could serve as a reminder to directors that he can act.
