Review of Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) by Bronwen L — 26 Oct 2016
Another one of those films that have entered in the Meryl Streep patheon where she delivers a very strong and sympathetic performance as the titular character whose using performance and signing as her escape from her maladies and to make her happy, but does't include quality let's say, but the remainder of the film is a tug of war as to whether it wants to be more a slapstick comedy because of said schtik or a tragedy or triumph of wills after she passes shortly after her Carnegie performance after a very polarizing performance where she finally realizes what some of the public and press think of her for real.
As said Meryl raises the quality of the project with her tremendous abilities, and you have solid support from Grant as her long supportive to a point husband and Rebecca Ferguson as his girlfriend, but the film would have defintely been raised a star or two with more tonal balance.
Meh.
