This movie completely surprised me! Yes, it is about a woman who loved singing but was so incredibly bad at it, but it is about so much more. It is the real story of Florence Foster Jenkins who in the 1940s during World War II was a patron to the arts.

Amongst other things she gave money to opera houses and conductors in order for them to perform music. She also founded the Verdi Club where she initially participated in shows along with her husband, a somewhat talentless actor.

When she opens her mouth to sing, only awful things come out. But the movie is also about following your heart, no matter what it takes, no matter if you are good at something or not. This is one of my favourite Meryl Streep films of all time and Hugh Grant shines in it so much that my mouth stayed open! Also Big Bang Theory alumnus Simon Helberg is in it as real-life pianist Cosmé McMoon (what a name!) and is so brilliant! I laughed so hard but I also cried.

It is so hilarious at times and at other times it is so moving and even sad. 5 stars!
