Review of Flirting with Disaster (1996) by Bill B — 17 Aug 2012
The only thing that I thought that worked in this movie was the acting because it was top notch, Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette played two great lead roles in this movie. The co-stars were also great, like Mary Tyler Moore, Josh Brolin and Richard Jenkins all did there parts very well.
So acting wise this movie did a great job in, but I think direction wise not so much. We all know David O. Russell is a terrific director because come on he directed the movies The Fighter and Three Kings which were awesome, so you would think this movie would have great direction, but of course it didn't.
Also sadly the direction of this was not the only thing that failed, but the Comedy in this movie also sucked. Yeah I get it's suppose to be dark humor and sure some scenes are kind of funny, but for the most part it just wasn't that funny.
I think the problem was the humor was a little too dark, yeah dark humor is great but when it's too dark it's just weird and kind of awkward and that's exactly what this movie was.
