Review of Flirting with Disaster (1996) by Alan H — 13 Apr 2007
What is frustrating about 'Flirting with Disaster' is that it has all the ingredients of being a very funny movie - seasoned actors,a promising story line and great potential for laughs - but instead is marred with sloppy, inconsistent direction that results in an uneven, over-acted 'send-up'.
Nowhere can be found the subtle understated comedy you would expect from Mary Tyler Moore, George Segal or Lily Tomlin where a pause, a look or quip gets the laugh. Instead Russell has unfortunately made a film that showcases Ben Stiller's more predictable, over the top humor.
I look forward to the re-make; one that flirts more with laughter.
