Review of Flipped (2010) by Kevin Val B — 05 Jan 2011
What this movie offers is a lot of nostalgia - for semi-forgotten feelings of puppy love and childhood innocence, as well as of films and TV shows that depict such sentiments excellently (Little Manhattan, The Wonder Years, Stand By Me).
The film sometimes feels like a Hallmark TV movie and is prone to getting carried away with itself. But thankfully, these flaws are overshadowed by its two leads' charming portrayals. Callan McAuliffe and Madeline Carroll breathe a refreshing combination of maturity and youthful energy into their characters and never taking them to the verge of saccharine overkill.
