Review of Flight of the Red Balloon (2007) by Cli O — 07 Dec 2008
This movie is a mixed bag.
On one hand, it does something really unique w/ symoblizim, and tries to revolutionize the idea of plot and exposition by creating this suttle system where you only slowly realize what's going on in the character's lives, and by the time you think you fully understand, the movies over, and much is left unexplained. More of a snippet of a person's life than a full blown movie.
On the other hand NOTHING HAPPENS!! Its like watching paint dry, or reading War and Peace. Its so dull I fell asleep three or four times. Its an amazing artful film don't get me wrong, its just so bloody DULL.
Really its just a question of whether you're one of those "movies are art" starry eyed cinegoers, or your rabid, action lusting, people who can't stand anything short of Eagle Eye as far as action/plot.
You choice, love it or hate it.
