Review of Flight of the Red Balloon (2007) by Ewan M — 21 Oct 2007
Hou has made a film with a narrative lightness to match the balloon of the title: a tale of a young boy, his mother and his child-minder set in a corner of Paris. It's all beautifully filmed and minutely observed, with no great melodramatic incident but a wealth of naturalistic performances.
