Review of Fletch (1985) by Jordan T — 16 Aug 2008
I was expecting a laugh-out-loud, hysterical, non-stop funny movie and didn't get it. I was so disappointed, but then I had to change the way I was watching it. This isn't a comedy (it has funny moments), instead it's a White "Beverly Hills Cop.
" Seriously; with all the disguises and lies Chevy Chase is a Caucasian Axel Foley, but he's an Investigative Journalist as opposed to being a Street Wise Cop. Chase's comic prowess is so subtle as his laughs are mostly out of him just being a smart ass.
His character keeps a straight face the entire time and doesn't take any bullshit. Chase's journalist skills also aren't too bad, and neither is his approach to "wet, married women" (a beautiful Dana Wheeler-Nicholson).
If you're a Chevy fan it's a must watch, otherwise be cautious.
