Review of Flatliners (2017) by Private U — 26 Dec 2017
I'm not saying this is...you know...a really really good movie or something, but I'm actually kinda surprised how universally panned it is. I hadn't seen the original in probably 20 years by the time I saw it, so I wasn't really actively comparing it to its predecessor.
I found it entertaining. It looks excellent visually, too. Nina Dobrev doesn't hurt in that respect, I must admit, but still...it's an attractive HD update. The characters aren't maybe as vivid or populated by as celebrated a cast, but they do alright.
I personally kinda like that they managed to do their shenanigans in a well-lit environment as opposed to the dark, cavernous room of the original. Does it detract from the mood and the horror mood? Yeah, I guess, but for me at least, it worked from an entertainment perspective.
