Review of Flatliners (1990) by Jan S — 25 Sep 2013
18 year old underrated gem about medical students who play chicken race to get a near death/afterlife experience, but only create bizarre visions, unwelcome visitors and forgotten childhood nightmares that haunt the cast.
A creepy thriller relivingly free from expensive, elaborate visual effects, but in the same class as today's Japanese horror movies. (Not the crappy US remakes). The cast really shine, especially a young Kiefer Sutherland, but the underlying message -- about God's and others' forgiveness for our real or perceived sins -- is truly unique compared to today's bland movies.
A great flick, but perhaps not for fundamentalist Christians.
