Review of Flashbacks of a Fool (2008) by Satu S — 29 Aug 2009
There might be something wrong with me but I never seem to like Daniel Craig's movies.
The basic concept of the movie sounds good, the coming-of-age/return-home kind of a storyline. And there are good individual performances thrown in the mix, such as Harry Eden's. But something felt to be missing still.
Somehow the strong cast and characters equaled to less than the sum of its parts. The character developments lacked cohesion, which resulted in unsustaining the intensity of the movie.
The long build up of the better part of the movie isn't met with any staggering enough revelation or explanatory event that would justify it all. Instead, the story is only neatly folded in the end like a sugar coated pill.
What "Flashbacks of a fool" does offer is retro costume design, nice scenery and a few delightful David Bowie and Roxy Music's songs.
