Review of Flashbacks of a Fool (2008) by Toby J — 21 Jan 2010
A real treat of British filmmaking, Walsh's direction lends itself to art and the cinematography is among the best I've seen. The cast are simply fantastic and I mean everyone, Daniel Craig standing out the most though for his representation of a washed up star.
The mine sequence is harrowing and heartbreaking and the first time I felt genuine shock in a film for quite a while. The final result is deminished by an overly long run time, by about fifteen to twenty minutes and also by the fact that the story just isn't that interesting once it has been revealed via flashbacks.
Critics disliked it, but this technical masterpiece and dramatic performance based film is a decent British hit.
