Review of Flashbacks of a Fool (2008) by Michael S — 08 Nov 2009
At the start of the film you see Joe living in an amazing condo by the beach, living it up on booze, drugs etc. The man who has everything - or seems to. As the film develops you see that he is just torturing himself for the mistakes that happened in his youth, the mistakes with consequences, which make him run away from his life in the UK and eventually lead to the life he is living now.
it is only through the death of a childhood friend, that the flashbacks help him wash himself free of the guilt he feels and return to the UK to face family and friends he left behind and the life he ran away from.
Well-cast, very thought-provoking and maybe not a Hollywood blockbuster but I think that the people who criticise it just don't understand. The score is great, the cinematograhy too. A film one could watch over and over and always gain something new from it.
