Review of Flash Point (2007) by Peter S — 24 Dec 2007
If you dont mind a bit of gratuitious violence in typical cliched Hong Kong style, then you will enjoy this. I have to say I did not have any expectations before watching this, but came out thinking this is one of the best of its genre in the last decade.
This is set in pre-handover HK and deals with a cops vs Triads theme (what else is new), but compared to a movie like "Infernal Affairs", this isnt as complex (a good thing) and has some of the best choregraphed fight scenes I have ever seen since early Jet Li. Donnie Yen (one of the dudes in "Hero") is awesome as the protagonist and choreographed all the fight scenes to blend in several fighting techniques (Kung-Fu, Jiujitsu, wrestling, Aikido, drunken Tai-Chi) which makes the scenes and stunts more impressive and original. Warning for the queasy: this is very graphic.
