Review of Flash Point (2007) by Jordan R — 23 Apr 2008
Half kung fu movie, half Hong Kong Blood Opera. Has some pretty harsh action sequences - not Tony Jaa levels of bonecrushing pain or acrobatics, but makes up with a stronger plot and more realism. The intro of MMA techniques was well done and made things more realistic - obviously we don't watch these movies for their verisimilitude, but it's an interesting change of pace to see grapples, throws, and huge heavy punches vie for equal space with balletic high kicks.
Extended fight sequence at the end is of pretty good quality. Watch for the professional wrestling moves sprinkled in the fights - I caught a German suplex, an inverted powerbomb, and a sleeper hold. Wacky.
