Review of Flakes (2009) by Jonathan W — 12 Jul 2008
"Flakes" is an independent film that is entertaining, but doesn't get past the cutsey concept. There is alot of potential here for something really great, but the story doesn't really get anywhere, and what takes place in 90 minutes could've gone by much more swiftly at a mere half hour.
The cast, though, obviously believes in their cause - they all give nice little performances, even the unlikable Zooey Deschanel (who has thus far given the worst female performance of the year in the horrid "The Happening").
Overall, "Flakes" offers several light chuckles and amuses easily, which I guess is realy all you can hope for in a film these days. Still, you can't help but wonder about how great the film could've been, if only it had a little something extra.
For what it's worth, though, it's not a waste of time.
