Review of Flags of Our Fathers (2006) by Spencer S — 06 Jul 2009
I must say that my admiration for Clint Eastwood only grows with every movie of his that I watch. With that said this movie does not hold a candle to the other war epics such as Saving Private Ryan and Apocalypse Now.
It does a good job of showing the fabrication that America makes about war, then directly contrasts them with the realities and horrors of war. Eastwoods direction is solid and like in most of his movies the emotional scenes are heightened with the intense realism.
The acting was all around good but I feel that Adam Beach seemed to struggle a bit when the script called on him to carry some of the more dramatic scenes. In all it was a good movie that will spark the intrest of anyone who is into american history.
