First part of Eastwoods Iwo Jima experience. Dream team of Spielberg/Eastwood have somehow managed to make just an average film about the US invasion of Iwo Jima and the famous picture of planting the flag followed by its "press tour" to induce people buying war bonds.
Maybe the duality of the movie is not really working but this left me quite cold. The silliness of re-acting the famous moment on the home soil when the real heroes are still fighting (and dying) overaseas is nicely portrayed.
With visual style borrowed from Private Ryan and a bit too ciched characters this is definitely an inferior film to the much better Letters From Iwo Jima.
