Review of Flags of Our Fathers (2006) by Sumit S — 07 Dec 2012
Although the battle scenes stand really well against the standards set by Saving Private Ryan, Flags of Our Fathers is more of the aftermath story of the soldiers who raised the American flag over Iwo Jima, which became the most iconic photograph of its time.
The direction is good, cinematography is a winner, the story, however, gives a mixed feeling, both from what was expected from it & how it delivers with what it got. Patriotism, heroes, war... It questions everything in an effective manner yet overall, Flags of Our Fathers is only a pretty decent watch.
