Review of Fixed Bayonets! (1951) by Craig B — 14 Jan 2010
Aside from being one of the few great Korean War films, 'Fixed Bayonets' offers a stellar vision of the "classic war" cinema. It's not exactly like the usual setup, but it's better for standing out in its own unique way. It's very dark, and also breath-taking at certain points; especially when a fallen comrade gets stuck in the middle of a minefield.
In just 92 minutes, the film chronicles some great action sequences while at the same time developing a handful of convincing characters. All of them have something to say about their duty as ranking officers, and even though we only see them in combat, we still get a good idea as to who they are as people with hopes and dreams of coming home.
An Excellent period film!
