Review of Five Easy Pieces (1970) by James-Masaki R — 06 Nov 2011
Movies about loners and loss of identity was one of the highlights of the early 70's with pictures like "Two Lane Blacktop", "Vanishing Point", and of course "Five Easy Pieces", this one from BBS.
It doesn't have the insanity of "Head" or the counter-culture drugged up techniques and feeling of "Easy Rider", but Jack Nicholson's excellent performance makes it a standout in character that the others of the time were lacking.
It doesn't have the car chases or the ambiguity of "Blacktop" or "Vanishing", but still one of the great ones in the American New Wave.
