The woman from the wrecked car that Jack picks up who whines about consumerism does more to hurt her cause than to help it; she seems to be idiosyncratic for the purpose of being endearing, but she just comes across as stupid.

After the waitress encounter, when we are back in the car with her, there is a brief series of points that each end with a cut to car exterior and hit of music that together act as a rimshot. This is the film at its most off-track.

Even if most of the movie meanders, that is the point to a degree, but it never feels that off-topic and it never shows more disregard for the main characters. This is all not to say that the movie is ruined by these moments, but it's an example of how the movie feels somewhat unconfident or not quite whole.

There's a lot to like about this movie and a lot not to like.
