Review of Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Hunter D — 25 Feb 2010
Awe-inspiring filmmaking in terms of what Herzog put in front of the camera. It's exhausting to think about the agony that must have gone into making this film, which brings on such a feeling of ecstasy by the end.
Klaus Kinski in incredible in the titular role, the perfect embodiment of the dreamer protagonists that Herzog loves, this dream being to bring opera to a South American settlement, even if it means doing the impossible to realize it.
This is the greatest film that Herzog and Kinski created together, and that's saying a lot.
