Review of Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Brandon K — 13 Feb 2009
As my journey through the rather splendid Herzog/Kinski boxset continues (you can pick it up very cheap on Amazon) I decided to revisit the awesome triumph of the will that was Fitzcarraldo. A lot has been said over the years about the making of the film (they actually dragged that fekkin boat over a mountain for real) so I wont say too much about that.
This film really has stood the test of time, Kinski's performance of the great dreamer is top notch and Herzog seems to be on the top of his game. The imagery of the paddle steamer pulling itself up the mountain through the mist are sublime to say the least.
