Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Miguel T — 09 May 2010
A mostly powerful and sometimes even poignant film about a girl who can't quite decide whether she should grow up or not. The story lives and succeeds because of its actors. Katie Jarvis is really phenomenal in her simultaneously delicate and tough-as-nails turn as the central character Mia, and Michael Fassbender solidifies his place among today's very finest actors.
When these two forces coming crashing together, the result is a dangerous and edgy movie that works for nearly its entire running time, and which has a few surprising moments of tension built through the sheer realism of their direction.
